Win this beautiful 1967 Triumph Spitfire Mk2, a wonderfully presented and increasingly rare example of one of Triumph’s most recognisable British sports cars, finished in its factory colour of Powder Blue with immaculate red leather trim. With just 100 Spitfire Mk2s currently recorded as licensed for UK roads, this is a particularly rare opportunity.

First registered on 1st March 1967, this Mk2 combines all the charm, simplicity and open-top character of the early Spitfire with a series of carefully considered mechanical upgrades designed to make it a quicker, more capable and thoroughly enjoyable car to drive.

Rather than the original 1,147cc engine, this Spitfire is powered by a later small-bearing 1300 engine, fitted in 2015 and subsequently bored to 1,330cc. The engine was balanced and fitted with a fast-road camshaft, gas-flowed cylinder head with larger valves and an unleaded conversion. Rebuilt 1500 Spitfire carburettors, free-flow air filters and a tubular sports exhaust complete the package.

Drive is through a rebuilt four-speed, all-synchromesh gearbox with the stronger J-Type overdrive operating on third and fourth gears, together with a rare factory alloy bellhousing.

The chassis has received plenty of attention too, with rebuilt and poly-bushed suspension, Koni adjustable rear dampers, AVO adjustable front dampers and fast-road springs. Combined with the upgraded drivetrain, the result is a Spitfire that retains its classic character while being particularly well suited to modern-day driving.

Extensively Restored and Carefully Developed

This Spitfire underwent an extensive body restoration in 1999–2000, before being resprayed in its original Powder Blue and wax protected.

It has continued to be carefully maintained and improved over the years, with more recent work including attention to the bodywork, cooling system, interior and trim. The seats have also been rebuilt and retrimmed in leather, while its wire wheels and chrome spinners complete the classic British sports car appearance.

The result is a beautifully presented Mk2 that retains its wonderful period character while benefiting from years of thoughtful improvement and care.

A Rare Early Spitfire

The Spitfire Mk2 was produced between 1965 and 1967, with 37,409 examples built. Today, DVLA-derived figures show only around 100 Mk2s licensed for use on UK roads, making a road-going example an increasingly uncommon sight. *

What makes this particular car especially interesting, however, is the way it has been developed. It still looks and feels unmistakably like an early Triumph Spitfire, but underneath sits a thoughtfully upgraded drivetrain, suspension and cooling system.
